IDSCI is excited to participate in our second annual Cybersecurity Awareness Month this year. Throughout September, we will be holding events to help our students learn about cybersecurity, what they can do to protect themselves, and how to raise awareness about the dangers of cybercrime. Our first event of the month was a meet and greeted with Hacker 2.28m. As part of this interactive workshop, students were taught about cybersecurity and how to protect themselves online.
We look forward to continuing these events throughout September to raise awareness of cybercrime. For more information or to register for our upcoming events, please visit our website or contact us at idsci@idsci.edu.

What are the benefits of being cyber-aware?
Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a necessary time to educate yourself and your employees on the risks of cyberattacks. Cybersecurity awareness month can help protect your business from several cyber threats, such as data breaches, ransomware, phishing, and more.
Some benefits of being cyber-aware include the following:
-Data breaches are one of the most common ways hackers gain access to companies’ confidential information. You can reduce the chances of a violation occurring in the first place by understanding how your company operates and what information is valuable to attackers.
-Avoid ransomware attacks: As malware evolves, so does ransomware. Ransomware locks down your computer until you pay the attacker a ransom (money). Many businesses have been impacted by ransomware in recent years, and it’s one of the most problematic types of attacks because it can quickly damage businesses’ operations. Cyber-aware can help you identify potential ransomware threats and protect yourself from them.
-Avoid phishing attacks: Phishing scams are the most common type of attack, and they are designed to steal your personal information.
How can you be more cybersecurity aware?
There are a few simple things that you can do to be more cybersecurity aware. The first is to keep your computer and devices up-to-date with the latest security patches. Make sure you password-protect your appliances and always use strong passwords. Also, ensure your devices are not easy to hack into, such as by installing antivirus software and using a secure login password.
Another step that you can take to improve your cybersecurity awareness is to learn about different types of hacks and online scams. Familiarize yourself with common malware signatures and know what red flags to look for when browsing the internet. Stay informed about new cyber threats to stay ahead of potential attacks.
Be careful about sharing information online, and don’t click on links in unsolicited emails or messages from strangers regarding online security. No matter how secure your device or account may seem, someone could steal or attack your data. By following these simple steps, you can protect yourself from cyber threats while using technology effectively.
